 BABA & NYONYA

 Baba and Nyonya are a group of Chinese descendants found in the Straits Settlements, Malaya (now part of Malaysia), especially in Melaka. However, some of them refuse to acknowledge that they are Chinese but the British and are proud of this position. Furthermore, they are cultivating new Chinese immigrants, [1] and have their own clubs that do not allow Chinese immigrants to enter. They call themselves "Baba" or "Peranakan" because their culture, which originated in the Chinese heritage, has elements of Malay cultural influence. Their cultural adaptation and resilience to the socio-cultural atmosphere in their past environment, which is through intermarriage between the Chinese and the Malays, is a major cause of why the next generations called them "Baba".
